We use it first
Every module goes live across a group of more than ten properties before it is sold. If something cannot survive a full working day, it never reaches the price list.
About us
VenusLab comes out of the work of people who run hotels. The problems we solve are the ones we had: two systems that will not talk to each other, a margin you find out about in March, enquiries left sitting in an inbox until Monday.
Where it comes from
You can design a PMS at a desk. Then Saturday night arrives with the late check-in, the group that changes its dates and the portal that will not respond, and you find out which features were actually needed.
That is why every module goes live across a group of more than ten working properties first, ours included, and stays there for entire seasons before we offer it to anyone else.
They differ in size, in season and in how they sell, and that is where the value of the bench sits: what holds up in a single property can be luck, what holds up in ten cannot. Revenue management moves prices in real hotels, not on test data. Cost control closes real books.
Who it is for
Chains have a revenue manager, a controller and a marketing department. An independent hotel has one person doing all three, usually while standing at reception.
Our job is to take off that desk everything a machine does better: copying numbers across, filling in portals, recalculating prices, chasing confirmations. What is left — deciding, welcoming, selling — is the part that is worth something.
How we work
They are the same things we would ask of a supplier, and the same things we looked for and never found back when we bought software instead of writing it.
Every module goes live across a group of more than ten properties before it is sold. If something cannot survive a full working day, it never reaches the price list.
Every module works on its own and gets added when it is needed, with no compulsory migration. Taken together they become the property’s operating system: which of the two routes is yours is your call, not the price list’s.
It stays yours when you stop too: exportable, in open formats, without having to ask. A supplier is judged partly on what leaving them is like.
You will not find “+38% RevPAR” on this site. The percentages depend on the property and on where it started: you look at them on your own data, not on a poster.
Who is behind it
Founder & CTO
He started in hotels, not in software. The problems VenusLab solves are the ones he ran into running properties, and that is where the decision came from: write the tools instead of carrying on buying them and bending to the way they were built.
For the group of hotels the products run on he looks after the online side of the business and does their revenue management: the prices RatePilot proposes end up on rooms he has to sell himself. That is what the proving ground is, before it is ever a procedure.
Today he leads the development of the four products and works directly with the properties that run them — which is why the address and the number below are his.
Beyond the software
A revenue management system is no substitute for a strategy, and cost control is worth nothing if the chart of accounts is wrong. Where the method is missing before the tool, we work alongside the property on the setup as well: how the rates are built, how the costs are classified, what is worth measuring at all.
It is consulting work in its own right — revenue management, cost control, how the departments are organised — and it is often the part that has to come before the software: a tool switched on top of a wrong method runs it faster, it does not fix it.
It can be taken on its own, with no module attached: if what you need is to put the method back in order on the tools you already run, that is work we do and it stops there.
